Membership requirements for American Artist's Guild
In order to become a member of the Fraternal organization known as the American Artist's Guild or (AAG). You must be able to show that you meet the following requirements.
YOU are considered to be An American "Artist" if YOU are:
- a person who was born in and is a citizen of the United States or it's American Dependent Areas and Territories, or are a naturalized citizen thereof;
- a person may seek out other artists for companionship and emotional support;
- a person who calls yourself an "Artist" and feels that you are culturally distinct from the general population; you are considered by the community and many people who know you to be "An Artist".
- living as an "Artist" have friends that are Artists and participate in activities that are seen by the community at large as distinctly creative; such as showing your work or creative skills in the community within the public forum on a regular and ongoing basis. All Artists have a provable history of creativity;
- a person whose creative work shows imagination, purpose, and sensitivity;
- a member of associations, organizations, and creative groups to further yourself in business and to meet socially;
- often taking classes to further your personal skill set and or teach classes to further the skills of others and for community understanding and appreciation for the arts;
- often unable to support yourself without working a second or third job;
- often living in converted buildings or "unsavory" places in order to practice your craft or have an "Artist's Studio";
- often need to rent space in buildings away from residential neighborhoods to practice your craft because the tools your craft may cause you to be to loud or you may have electrical (power wattage) or other needs that do not conform to residential standards);
You must be an American Artist to qualify for membership in the American Artists Guild.
There are the usual ways to tell an "Artist" from the general population.
You can:
- Have an art degree or extensive training from an accredited school or university.
- Be working toward an art degree in an art degree program at an accredited school or university.
- Have spent years in an arts related line of work, working as an "Artist" (the term "Artist" covers many fields).
- Have studied or are studying under a "Master Craftsman" anywhere in the world.
American Artists are a culturally distinct and unique group of people who may be from different racial, socio-economic, gender, and age groups. However, our unifying quality is much stronger than all of the differences mentioned above.

Dictionary.com defines an "Artist" as: "a person whose creative work shows sensitivity and imagination" and also uses words like:
- clever,
- deviceful,
- fertile,
- formative,
- gifted,
- ingenious,
- innovative,
- inspired,
- inventive,
- original,
- productive,
- prolific,
- stimulating, visionary,
and maybe a few more creative words as well...
An "Artist" is culturally unique, our creativity is not something we can turn on and off, as we please. Creating is who we are and what we do. It is in the fabric of our very being.
